Specifically, research published in the National Library of Medicine, Front Microbiol 2016 publication,  “Shows that carvacrol is effective in eliminating the bacteria Staphylococcus aureusand Staphylococcus epidermidis, two common causes of infection”.  The authors of a study in Frontiers in Microbiology, found that a combination of oregano oil and silver nanoparticles effectively eliminated all the bacteria they tested.

The thymol content in thyme oil is thought to have antispasmodic properties. According to research published in PubMed, Thyme essential oil has been shown to be effective at reducing coughs and reducing the duration of  respiratory tract infections, such as the common cold.

Further, Research from 2015 found thymol to be an effective treatment for common Candida fungal infections.
